Some common knowledge about anime

Types#

Based on the initial release channels, they can be roughly divided into TV Animation (TV Series), Theatrical Animation (Movies), and Web Animation (ONA, Original Net Anime).

OVA (Original Video Animation)
The first release is sold through offline physical discs, without the need to consider screening and playback censorship issues, allowing for greater creative freedom. Generally divided into DVD and BD (Blu-ray, which is more expensive).

OAD (Original Animation Disc)
OADs are generally not sold separately but are offered as bonuses.

OVD (Optical Video Disk)
This category is broad, including all works released on disk.

SP (special)
Typically a short animation with a runtime of only a few minutes, the art style may vary greatly.

Bonus
As special collectible gifts, these can be a standalone segment or a series of videos, or items like postcards or posters.

Music#

OP/ED (Open/End)
Opening and ending songs. There are also NCOP/NCED, which are OP/EDs that do not include credits (NC stands for Non-Credit).

OST (Original Sound Track)
A song or piece of music that first appears in a certain media (film, TV series, anime, game, etc.) and is officially released by the production company, emphasizing its original nature.

BGM (Background Music)
A melody or piece of music used to set the atmosphere, etc.

Others#

PV (Promotion Video)
The promotional trailer for a series usually uses the anime's theme song as background music to introduce the characters.

CM (Commercial Message)
An advertisement reminding everyone that the series is about to air.
